Obstacles in prayer
Prayer before the Holy Face as well as all prayer in general should be out of our humility before our Lord.
"Humility is the foundation of prayer" (CC2559)
As a child, when I got into trouble, my dad would call me over to have a word with me. I remember him saying, "Look at me when you talk to me!" The reality is, I normally looked my dad in the face when I talked to him but when I was bad, I did not want to. Dad knew that, so he wanted me focused and listening so his correction was well received. Our Lord always wants us able to look upon His Merciful Face and find our loving Father waiting to embrace us and lead us into union with Him.
Know that our Lord waits for us to come to Him. Christ waits for us to come to Him in Reconciliation, to receive Him in holy Communion, to always be one of his honored guests at Holy Mass. He waits for us to visit Him before the Blessed Sacrament and through these incredible encounters with our Lord, we are spiritually sustained such that our daily prayer life is nourished and uplifted. Our Catholic obligations (Unless one is legitimately unable to fulfill them)
are the foundation of our spiritual life.
